We created this poster by combining satellite imagery and bathymetric (ocean depth) data. For each island, we combined many Landsat satellite images from multiple dates to create a completely cloud-free image in true color. For the ocean areas, we used bathymetry data from the Hawai'i Mapping Research Group and created a color shaded relief image that shows the undersea extents of the massive volcanoes forming the main Hawaiian Island chain.

This poster was printed “carbon neutral” in Hawai’i via natureOffice. This means that any carbon dioxide (CO2) produced during the printing process is offset by our purchase of carbon credits. The funds generated from our purchase of carbon credits are currently used to re-plant Koa trees on the Big Island.
